Madison Ridgeland Rotary Club Recipient of the Governors Award for 2010-2011
Representatives from the Madison Ridgeland Rotary Club recently attended the annual District 6820 conference and proudly accepted the Governors Award on behalf of the club. The Governor’s Award names the overall “best” club in the district, the club that makes its statistical goals, but also is voted by the district officers as the club that made the most difference over the year in service projects, community spirit, leadership, etc.
Our water well in Malawi is now operational!
In 2010, our club, with the help of Rotarians Jay and Sherry Chance, sponsored a water well in Malawi, Africa. Our well was among 18 wells sponsored by area Rotary clubs, thanks to a matching grant from the Rotary Foundation which doubled our investment.
Victor Smith (Jackson Rotary Club) reported that the well we sponsored is serving a rural, impoverished village of about 300 people. Victor said that a villager there estimated that 20 people on average died in that village annually from contaminated drinking water. This is a project that will save lives.
